ABSTRACT
The work presented herein analyses the impact that the current global crisis is having on workers in the MERCOSUR auto industry and on the sector in general. The study will systematise and analyse information generated by business and union organisations on the effect of the crisis in terms of production, sales and employment and on the various conflicts (corporate actions and employee actions) developed since the evident beginning of the impact in October 2008, until June 2009. The study highlights the use of tools by the companies that flexible labour relations in order to absorb the effect of the crisis on their earnings and the resistance displayed by workers. It likewise emphasises differences among the strategies displayed by labour unions in Brazil and Argentina.
